Woman Turns Dollar Tree Plastic Bowls Into a Convincing Giant 'Concrete' Planter for Pennies
When you want to get crafty - and do it for less - Dollar Tree is a great destination. With so many affordable, malleable items, it's a mecca for finding things you can, with a little creativity and ingenuity, turn into other, more elegant things.
A prime example comes to life in the simple, inspiring video of social media user HotHumblePie (@hothumblepie on TikTok). So, how did she turn four plain plastic bowls into a sturdy, inviting, concrete planter? Let's dig in.

So Easy (To Fall In Love) - Olivia Dean
When you see the two bowls at the start of this video, it will be hard to imagine that they could ever be anything different. But keep watching. Here are the steps this woman took to go from plain Jane to pretty planter.

Stack And Fill
First, she fills one of the two smaller bowls with gems (although she notes in the video that she wishes she'd used one heavy item - like a rock - rather than these, which jingle). Then she uses E600 hot glue to attach the other bowl on top. She notes that you should clean up any excess glue on the edges before it cures.
Rinse and Repeat
She repeats this process with the two larger Dollar Tree bowls. One note: she's sure to point out that this is a personal project, and will be done when it looks right to you. You can adjust the bowl placement and amount of glue until you feel satisfied.
Finish and Cure
Finally, she uses the same E6000 glue and some hot glue on low heat to glue the rest of it together. She paints it to look like stone and seals it with a weatherproof clear sealant for durability.

Your Project, Your Way
In the end, this user has a planter that looks refined and elegant on her front porch. But if you prefer a different style - if, say, you're going for a kooky grandma or art-inspired vibe - you can take a different route. The planter could be painted in bold stripes, covered in plastic gemstones, or made to sparkle. You're the boss.
That's part of what makes DIY projects like these so wonderful. They're not only a way to get something you really want and will use for (a lot) less - they're also a low-stakes chance to express your creativity and find your style. Shoutout to Dollar Tree for providing the inexpensive yet sturdy materials that let us express ourselves.
