Frances Tiafoe Delivers Stern Message to Opponent Before French Open Win
American tennis star Frances Tiafoe booked his ticket to the fourth round of the French Open on Saturday night with a 4-6, 6-7 (2), 7-6 (4), 6-1, 6-2 that took exactly four hours.
The American battled back from two sets down to win the match, but the turning point may have come in the fifth set when it was still close.
Tiafoe and Portuguese qualifier Jaime Faria started arguing about a call early in the fifth set.
"Why don't you quit trying to act like you're tough? You're not hard bro, just play," Tiafoe could be seen yelling at his opponent.

Faria then complained to the chair umpire as the players approached each other at the net: "You see what he's saying?"
The chair umpire told both players to be quiet.
Frances Tiafoe 'Needed' the Confrontation
Following the match, the tennis star said he "needed" the confrontation, which helped him calm his nerves and deliver a rout in the final set.
"I needed that," Tiafoe said of the exchange. "Because I'm up at the time, but I'm still a little nervous. And he was chirping. He definitely gave me a lot of lip. He thought he was [boxer] Ryan Garcia or something."
Tiafoe next meets Matteo Arnaldi, who eliminated Raphael Collignon in a fifth-set tiebreaker after nearly five hours. The two will play on June 1, but a time has not been announced for the match as of yet.
The American is hoping to improve on his career-best finish at the French Open in 2025 when he made it to the quarterfinal before losing to eventual champion Carlos Alcarz, whom Tiafoe had on the ropes.
If he defeats Arnaldi, Tiafoe would square off against Juan Manuel Cerundolo, who pulled off the upset of the tournament by defeating Jannik Sinner in the second round, or veteran Matteo Berrettini in the quarterfinal.
