'Store for the future': Wenatchee Walmart plans major store remodel, hiring workers
The Wenatchee Walmart is expected to begin a full store remodel in mid-July.
The remodel is intended to create a more convenient and visually appealing shopping experience for customers, according to a Walmart spokesperson. Plans include a new store layout, with departments shifting to different areas of the store.
Store hours are not expected to change during construction.
An updated delivery and pickup system is expected to be a major focus of the remodel to speed up customer service. Walmart said the store's expected daily online orders are projected to increase from about 500 to more than 1,000.
The Wenatchee location is one of more than 650 Walmart supercenters across the country undergoing remodels.
"We want to create a faster and more convenient shopping experience for our customers," an unnamed Walmart spokesperson said.
To help keep the project on schedule, Walmart is hiring 55 overnight employees and eight daytime employees. Overnight workers will work during nonbusiness hours to minimize disruptions for customers.
Daytime positions will start at $17.50 per hour. Overnight workers will receive $17.50 per hour plus a $1.50 overnight differential.
