Some cats get all the glory. Between being a rare breed, having a gorgeous color palette, and a charismatic personality to boot, these kitties are the actual cat's meow! If I could manifest the purrfect cat out of thin air, I have one special boy in mind to use as inspiration-and it's mostly because of how striking his face is.

Neville, a rare Maine Coon-Bengal cat mix, looks like someone sat down with paint and a brush to create one stunning abstract portrait. You have to see this beautiful boy!

Have you ever seen such stunning black-and-gold colors on a cat before? Neville, in all his Maine Coon and Bengal glory, is worthy of all our "awws," and he's more than happy to show off for them.

Whether he's feeling a little spicy while playing with Mom or off doing other cat things, he's the epitome of what an "abstract" coat truly is. *chef's kiss* Looks aside, there's something else Neville wants you to see.

OK, so this is just a closer look at this boy's color-blocked face because he's such a unique-looking kitty. He must have some fierce-looking parents!

How Rare Is a Maine Coon-Bengal Mix?

This particular blend of feline DNA is extremely rare due to the lack of intentional cross-breeding. Both Maine Coons and Bengal cats are pedigree breeds, so it's more likely that a mix of the two came as a result of an accidental litter (which is why they're so rare).

Typically, breeders work to preserve each breed's specific traits instead of mixing a "wild-origin shorthair" with a domestic long-haired kitty. For the ones who do appear like a pot of gold at the end of a rainbow, their personalities vary but hold many of the biggest features from each parent's side, such as:

  • Having a dog-like personality-loving water, playing fetch, and following their human from room to room
  • Requiring a lot of mental stimulation to keep up with how intelligent they are
  • Bonding strongly with one person
  • Being bigger, like Maine Coons, and having energy like Bengals
  • Vocalizing more than the average cat
  • Not becoming fully mature until 4 to 5 years of age

Whatever specific pieces Neville's mom and dad passed down, he sure is one pretty baby!
