Professional Organizer Shares the Secret to a Cleaner-Looking Garage
Most garages end up storing far more than cars. Half-used paint cans are shoved onto shelves. Sports equipment is leaning against the wall. Random cords, tools, gardening supplies, and holiday decorations are packed wherever they fit.
Professional organizer @tidycademy re-shared a garage organization system that breaks the space down piece by piece, rather than tackling everything at once.

How the Garage Organization System Works
One of the biggest changes comes from using matching storage bins with lids. Outdoor equipment, beach supplies, and larger seasonal items are grouped into the same container style rather than scattered loosely around the garage. Clothing and memorabilia move onto higher storage racks, while food and household supplies stay lower and easier to identify quickly.

The process starts with decluttering shelves and cabinets before sorting smaller items into categories. Batteries, lightbulbs, screws, extension cords, and household hardware all move into labeled bins instead of loose drawers and half-open boxes.
Leftover paint cans are labeled by room and stored toward the back since they are not needed often. Cleaning supplies are grouped in one section, while art supplies are stored in drawer organizers to keep smaller items separated.
Wall organizers pull rakes, shovels, and yard tools off the floor rather than leaving them piled in corners. Balls, bikes, and sports gear move onto dedicated racks, opening up the space underneath.
Shelves become visible again. The floor opens up. Seasonal items stop getting buried behind things that belong somewhere else.

Matching Storage Changes the Look of the Entire Garage
Matching bins change the look of the shelves almost immediately. Bulky items stop spilling across multiple shelves once everything is grouped into consistent containers with lids.
And unlike some organizing projects that require custom cabinetry or a full renovation, this system mostly relies on sorting similar items together and storing them in consistent places.
