Charles Schwab Challenge Suspended Amid 'Dangerous Weather Situation'

Ahead of the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge on Thursday morning, the PGA Tour communications department revealed the weather forecast for the day.

"There is a few thunderstorms 60 miles to the NW of Forth Worth that may bring a passing shower around 9am if it holds together," the forecast read. "Otherwise, partly cloudy skies and warm temperatures can be expected today with highs in the mid to upper 80s. An isolated thunderstorm could develop during the afternoon, but most locations will remain dry."

While there was just a slight chance that thunderstorms would wreak havoc on the Fort Worth area, mother nature had other plans.

First Round of Charles Schwab Challenge Suspended

On Thursday afternoon the PGA Tour announced the first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge has been delayed due to inclement weather.

"The first round of the Charles Schwab Challenge suspended due to a dangerous weather situation at 4:15 p.m. CT," the PGA Tour's communications department said.

The PGA Tour doesn't appear to be willing to restart the tournament today due to its use of "suspended" instead of "delayed."

A significant amount of the field hasn't finished their respective first rounds yet, which means some groups will have to play up to 27 holes tomorrow, May 29, to ensure they're done before the field is cut in half for the weekend.

When the first round of the tournament was called, four golfers sat tied at 6-under atop the leaderboard. Ryan Gerard and Andrew Putnam put out a number for the field to chase this morning and Erik Van Rooyen and Tom Kim answered the call, matching Gerard and Putnam at 6-under for the day.

Both Van Rooyen and Kim still have the Par 4 No. 9 hole left to play.
