Playground dustup
Starbird Theatre presents the dark comedy of manners, "God of Carnage," showing Friday through Sunday at Washington State School for the Blind's Sherman Auditorium, 2289 E. McLoughlin Blvd., Vancouver. The play tells the story of two sets of parents who meet to resolve a playground fight between their sons, but their attempts at civilized discussion devolve into a chaotic but hilarious battle of accusations, insults and shattered civility. The play reminds all of us that no matter how polished your persona, there's always someone who will take you down a peg. Showtimes are 7:30 p.m. Friday and Saturday and 2 p.m. Saturday and Sunday. Four-legged hero
The Friends of Fort Vancouver welcome search-and-rescue dog Ellie May and her handler, J.W. Jones, to launch Jones' first children's book, "Ellie May and the Midnight Search: A True Search and Rescue Story," written from Ellie May's point of view. Meet Ellie May and Jones from 1 to 3 p.m. Saturday at the Fort Vancouver Visitor Center and learn about the efforts of a real search-and-rescue team, highlighted by personal experiences. The book will be available for sale in the bookstore for $11.99. The event is free but register at friendsfortvancouver.site.
Petal power
The Fort Vancouver Rose Society will host the 71st Annual Rose Show, "A Rosy Affair," from 1-4 p.m. Saturday at the Clark County Event Center at the Fairgrounds, 17402 N.E. Delfel Road, Ridgefield. Roses include hybrid teas, floribundas, grandifloras, old garden and shrub roses, climbers, miniatures, minifloras and micro-miniatures, in addition to arrangements of large roses, miniatures minifloras and micro-miniatures. Up, up and away
The Clark County Radio Control Society will host its annual Warbird event for veterans from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sunday at the society's flying field at the Clark County Fairgrounds. The event features skilled radio control pilots flying precision RC warbird replicas such as P-51 Mustangs, Spitfires, Corsairs and other classic military aircraft. Kids and families welcome to see aircraft on display, talk with pilots, and learn aviation history. Buy food from Smokin' Frank's East Fork BBQ from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Admission is free; pilots are $20. Proceeds benefit veterans' charities.
