Heavy equipment maker Genie closes North Bend logistics facility
A heavy equipment manufacturer is closing its North Bend aerial lift facility, putting 117 jobs at risk.
Genie is a subsidiary of Terex Corporation, a global manufacturer of lifting and material-processing equipment. In other words, the company makes machines with arms that lift workers up on platforms.
The company's main office is in Bothell, and it has another aerial lift facility in Moses Lake.
According to a Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification filed May 21, the North Bend facility's activities will be relocated to other Terex facilities in Redmond; Southaven, Miss.; and Rock Hill, S.C.
If workers aren't offered another position with the company, layoffs will start July 20, according to the notice. The facility will close by the end of November.
The layoff announcement comes four months after Terex closed its merger with REV Group, a manufacturer of ambulances, buses, commercial vehicles and firefighting vehicles. According to online publication Equipment World, Terex plans to exit the aerial lift business under the Genie Brand.
A Genie representative did not respond to a request for comment.
