Legendary 1990s Metal Band Announces 'Final Career Show' This Year

It's always a sad thing when a longtime band calls it quits, especially when that band has been rocking it for decades. Now, a beloved heavy metal band has announced its "final career show," and it's set to take place in November.

Following more than four decades of metal fury, Brazilian outfit Sepultura has officially announced the final concert of their career. The historic show is scheduled for Nov. 7, 2026, at the Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu in São Paulo Brazil.

The band didn't pick this spot by chance. Mercado Livre Arena Pacaembu holds a unique meaning to them. Sepultura has been performing at the venue since the early 1990s, so this venue means a lot to them, "especially because of the iconic concert held at Praça Charles Miller, in front of the stadium, which helped establish the band's strength in Brazil," a press release provided to Men's Journal states. So, consider this a full-circle moment.

Beloved 1990s Metal Band Prepping for 'Final Career Show'

"More than a farewell concert, the night is being conceived as a grand celebration of Sepultura's history, bringing together different generations, eras and artists who have become part of the band's journey over the past 40 years," a press release adds. In this final show, the band is looking to celebrate all of Brazilian heavy music and how it's impacted the world's music.

Artists and band confirmed for the final show include Mike Portnoy of Dream Theater, Alex Skolnick and Chuck Billy of Testament, Phil Demmel, formerly of Machine Head, Troy Sanders of Mastodon and bass player and founder Mark Menghi. Performers also include death metal band Krisiun and American thrash metal band Sacred Reich, as well as special guests that "will be announced soon."

Plus, Sepultura will welcome former members of the group to join the fun, including original members Jean Dolabella and Jairo Guedz. So, this is really shaping up to be a performance that brings together metal musicians from around the world.

Sepultura first got together in Belo Horizonte in 1984, and they really broke out in the late 1980s and throughout the 1990s. I've covered them for years in my music writing and can't say enough about what they've brought to metal music. For information on the farewell show, head to the band's official website.
