Fun facts about the Highland Cows
Highland Cows are considered among the friendliest and gentle cow breeds, and they originate in the Scottish Highlands. They're also well known for their long coats and distinctive large horns.
According to the Inverness and Loch Ness Tourism Board, Highland Cows are "the oldest cattle breed in the world, appearing in the 6th century in the Outer Hebrides." These cows can also live up to twenty years old, which is a longer lifespan than other cattle breeds.
These cows eat a variety of plants, including grass, hay, clover, and shrubs, depending on their location. Not so surprisingly, Highland Cows spend a lot of time eating and can spend up to 8 hours a day, consuming over 150 lbs of grass each day.
