Rare Jimi Hendrix Documents Going on Display in New Exhibit
Often times with famous musicians or celebrities, the most ordinary items of theirs seem extraordinary. How many times have you seen an everyday item, for example, going for sale at auction and getting a ridiculous amount of money?
With that in mind, a new exhibit dedicated to late guitar legend Jimi Hendrix is opening in London, and it features very normal items. It's the kind of stuff that you wouldn't think twice about if it was from anybody but a celebrity like Hendrix.
At the exhibit, according to The Guardian, expect to see documents from his time living in London during the 1960s. The items on display include receipts from meals ordered from the restaurant Mr Love, a restaurant located at the ground level of his building, as well as dry cleaning tickets, contracts, calendars, flight details, invoices and more.
Many of these items will be on display for the first time. They're part of the corporate records of Anim Records, a company that managed the Jimi Hendrix Experience.
Items Tell the Tale of the 'Domesticity' in Jimi Hendrix's Life
"They tell a really important story of this one little moment of domesticity in Hendrix's life," exhibition curator Claire Davies said in an interview with The Guardian. "He had a very difficult childhood and then, during his four-year career when he was based in London, he was staying with other people or in hotels."
Davies adds, "So, when he was here at 23 Brook Street, it was the only place he called home and the only place with his name on the rent invoices."
The exhibit will debut at London's Handel Hendrix House on June 19.
