Dogs and mail people have always had an infamous relationship. As the cliche goes, the family dog will chase the mailman-maybe even bite them-in a misunderstood attempt to protect the home from a strange intruder.

One mailman, however, is proving that this need not be the case.

We don't know this mailman's name, but he is a hero to this beautiful white dog, certainly a best friend, and it's all because he brings a special delivery on his route, bearing love, attention and treats.

"There she is," we hear the excited mailman say as he sets eyes on the enthusiastic pup waiting patiently for his truck to come by the house.

"I'll be right back in two seconds, I gotta go down the street," the mailman says as the dog barks in anticipation. "Just be patient. I know, I'll be right back. I gotta do a stop across the street, and then I'll come see you."

The adorable dog stands sentinel, watching the happy mailman deliver the packages across the street, and the mailman is just as happy to see his four-legged friend.

As soon as the mail is delivered, the man brings his truck right around to make his most precious drop of the day.

"I've got a small one for you to start, because you were so patient," the mailman says as the puppy prances. "I know, I know, tap dancer."

He gives the dog a little treat, then asks the pet to walk with him as he makes the delivery to the dog's house. Once the package is secured, the white dog gets another treat and even more love.

Our favorite part is how the mailman talks to the dog like it's his little assistant. It's just too cute a friendship! Honestly, we could watch a movie about these two.

"The narration with a Boston accent made the video that much more enjoyable," one commenter says. "His love for the dog shines out."

"Don't stay up too late. You'll be cranky tamorah!" another person mimics.

"Dogs know good folk, and he's good folk," says another. "Fun to see their relationship."

How Did Dogs Chasing Mailmen Become a Cliche?

It's very true that some dogs bark at and chase mail delivery people, whether they be from USPS, FedEx or Amazon. Still, it all depends on the dog, how it's been trained and how it relates to strangers.

Dogs are territorial and protective of their pack. If a stranger comes to the house or even just happens to walk by, your dog might start barking through the window and running toward the would-be intruder.

If your dog often meets friends and strangers, perhaps this instinct isn't so active, but it's an instinct all the same.

The cliché was born of the very real phenomenon and solidified by TV shows like The Simpsons and Seinfeld. In real life, however, it doesn't have to be a mail person, just any stranger walking down the street.

In reality, your dog will get to know regular faces, and people who offer treats and affection are always on the good list. It's easy to see why this mailman is so beloved by this dog. Every time they meet, it's a highlight of both their weeks!
