‘Surrogate Mama' Cat Steps in to Care for 2 Kittens Rejected by Their Mother
Cats still get stereotyped as aloof and overly independent, yet many felines are extremely loving and empathetic. These fur babies have a strong compassionate side for their human family members as well as other furry friends and show it through affection and even caretaking.
Stevie the black-and-white cat is a perfect example of this benevolence. The sweet cat had just lost her own kittens, but was more than willing to tend to two kittens who needed a mom.
@eviannedubois These kittens weren't supposed to make it…then they met her Stevie had a spay-abort just 4 days prior and was already producing milk, making her a strong candidate to surrogate if she accepted kittens. These two were the only survivors of a litter of six, found abandoned in a dresser after being rejected by their mother. At just days old, their survival odds were already low. Bottle feeding can keep neonatal kittens alive but a mother gives them the best chance to truly thrive. Stevie took them in immediately and because of her everything changed #fosterkittens NeoNeonatalKittenstCatRescuerSurrogateMamasRescueCatstPetToktCatTokP

In the TikTok from @eviannedubois, Stevie lay curled up in a blanket as the first kitten was brought over to her. The two felines gently sniffed each other and released tiny squeaks and meows as the kitten made her way over to Stevie's belly to nurse.
As the pretty kitty got her nourishment, Stevie lovingly licked the kitten and seemed to wrap her arms around the fur baby in a tender embrace. The surrogate mama welcomed the other kitten to nurse as well and seemed totally content in the motherly role.
Followers were moved by the heartwarming scene, praising Stevie's loving heart and strong maternal instinct.
"She was so happy to have babies," one remarked.
"Please give her so many kisses, sweet mama took her new babies immediately!" another raved.
"What a magnificent mama she is," a follower noted.
"This cat is an angel," someone posted.
Stevie Helped Save the Kittens' Lives
The kittens were abandoned after their mom turned them away, and several siblings from their litter died. With no mother to feed them, their future was uncertain. Thankfully, Stevie stepped up to help the feline fur babies immediately following her own loss.
"These kittens weren't supposed to make it… then they met her," the caption explained. "Stevie had a spay-abort just 4 days prior and was already producing milk, making her a strong candidate to surrogate if she accepted kittens.
