‘Survivor 50' Crowns a Winner

The historic season, featuring 24 players, $2 million on the line, and some controversial new twists, has finally ended. Fans of the Kaôh Rōng runner-up can rejoice because Aubry Bracco just won Season 50 of Survivor.

The name of the game in Survivor is to outwit, outplay, and most importantly, outlast, and Aubry did just that. It took four tries, but Aubry finally became the sole survivor in an 8-3 vote.

Going into the finale, it was clear that winning immunity meant everything. After Tiffany Nicole Ervin fell just short of winning immunity, she was voted out in fifth place. She played a stellar game, similar to Aubry's in a way, but became too much of a threat in the end. The next challenge saw Aubry fighting tooth and nail to become the last one standing, securing her spot in the final 3.

Rizo Velovic was next to go, though audiences knew he was out before the fire-making segment aired, thanks to a little mishap from Jeff Probst. This is Rizo's second elimination from the game after losing firemaking.

With Rizo and Tiffany Ervin gone, the final three were Aubry, Joe Hunter, and Jonathan Young. Joe tried to play as honestly as possible until he realized that wasn't getting him anywhere. He changed course and started lying, but it was a little too late; his honor-based gameplay irritated too many jurors, and he wound up in third place. History repeated itself for him as well, like it did for Rizo, and this became Joe's second time getting third place.

Jonathan, on the other hand, made many strategic moves throughout. Despite making a solid case for his game and taking credit for numerous blindsides, it just was not enough. He earned votes from his closest allies, but did not sway any other jurors.

In the end, it was Aubry who earned herself the win. She proved that she was adaptable and that staying in the middle was a winning strategy. While some players like Jonathan and Rizo were tied to alliances, Aubry was constantly moving through the game alone. She had opportunities to work with multiple players, but retained agency. She could easily turn a friend into an enemy, but her relationships never stopped her from recognizing a threat. Ultimately, she was recognized as the last big threat but secured a clutch immunity win to stay safe. Whereas in Kaôh Rōng, she faced larger threats in the final, she made sure this time that she was the only one deserving of the win.

There was another winner tonight. The legendary Cirie Fields won two awards. She was awarded the "Spirit of Survivor" Award, cementing her status as the best to never win. Cirie also received the fan-voted "Sia" Award, which included a $100,000 prize.

Season 50 might be over, but Survivor will be back with a new season this fall.
