Jeff Probst Spoils Survivor 50 Finale Challenge Live, Leaves Fans and Players Stunned

Easily one of the best reality show hosts of all time, Jeff Probst has proven time and time again that he can keep his cool under pressure. Whether running the show during terrifying medical evacuations or handling his hosting duties in the middle of challenges, he typically is unflappable. During Survivor 50's live finale, however, he completely spoiled a pivotal challenge, and things only got worse from there.

The 'Survivor 50' Finale Shocked Everyone When Jeff Probst Spoiled a Pivotal Challenge

Whenever Survivor holds a live finale and reunion, Jeff Probst takes the opportunity to interview players going in and out of commercial breaks. Typically, these swift interviews allow the competitors to say a few words about the footage from the game that has just been shown.

During the finale for Survivor 50, one of the players Probst spoke to was Rizo Velovic. After their brief interaction, the show's host proceeded to do something truly shocking. As can be seen in the video below, he told Velovic to sit with the other jurors since he was one of the people who would choose the season's winner. There was one huge problem with that, though: Velovic was still in the game when the host made those remarks.

Ultimately, Velovic was eliminated from the game when he lost the final four firemaking challenge. But that hadn't been shown yet, and Probst's remarks completely spoiled what was about to happen. It actually gets a little bit worse than even that, though.

The reality of modern television is that many people who watch TV these days are distracted by their phones or other things. As such, if Probst had just kept going as if nothing had happened, a certain percentage of viewers may not have realized what had just been spoiled.

Unfortunately, Probst clearly picked up on the shocked reactions from the jurors or the studio audience's seemingly half-hearted applause. No matter what Probst noticed at that moment, he asked, "What just happened?" After a very brief and awkward silence, an uncomfortable-sounding Velovic and Cirie Fields both told him that the firemaking challenge hadn't been shown yet. That almost certainly would have ensured that even the majority of people who were only half watching recognized something had gone wrong.

Jeff Probst Mocks His Own Mistake

Since Jeff Probst is a pro, he must have realized there was no walking back the mistake he made during the Survivor 50 finale. Instead, he leaned into what happened when he jokingly pretended that his flub was the final twist of the season, calling it a "peek into the future." It was the perfect way to handle the mishap, and he got a major laugh from the live audience.
