Plex Quietly Adds 13 New Free Channels for Customers
Earlier this week Plex made headlines when it announced the price of a new lifetime Plex pass would triple to $750.
"When Plex first started, we were movie and TV fans who wanted to make something great for people like us. We chose to offer a lifetime subscription early on because we knew many of our customers would rather pay a higher one-time fee for software that they can depend on every day," the company said in a statement.
Plex revealed it considered eliminating the lifetime pass altogether, but opted to keep the "valuable option" for those in the Plex community.
"So instead of retiring it, we're keeping it available at a price that reflects the real, ongoing value of the software we're committed to building and maintaining for years to come," it concluded.
While Plex is upping its price, the company is also introducing new content.
Plex Adding 13 New Channels
Plex is adding 13 new channels, broadening its lineup of free, ad-supported channels. CordCutter News revealed, "the new channels cater to a wide range of interests, from dramatic storytelling and classic films to science, survival challenges, health topics, gardening, cooking, and more."
Here is a list of all the channels Plex just added:
- Generation Drama by WBtv
- Classic Cinema by WBtv

- Ghosts Are Real by WBtv

Plex initially began as a freeware hobby project in 2007, but after receiving robust funding and additional leadership, the company quickly emerged as a player in the streaming landscape.
Now the company boasts more than 25 million global users.
