PlayStation's Unexpected State of Play Announcement Could Hint at a Massive State of Play

Sony and PlayStation have had a relatively quiet year so far in 2026, with the only major AAA first-party release being Saros back in April. However, it seems virtually all eyes are on PlayStation now, as it has announced a new State of Play show, and it is breaking all previous show patterns.

Announced via official PlayStation social media accounts, the next State of Play show will be on June 2, 2026. It will be a longer-than-usual show, and fans will get an extended look at the upcoming Marvel's Wolverine game from Insomniac Games, releasing in September. The show will run for more than one hour.

From the official PlayStation Blog, "State of Play returns Tuesday, June 2 with more than 60 minutes of updates, announcements, and gameplay reveals from top studios around the world."

"To kick things off, you'll get a closer look atMarvel's Wolverine. Insomniac Games will share more from its upcoming third-person action-adventure game, showing off Logan's brutal and relentless combat along with some new details. This all-new take on the comic book legend launches on PS5 September 15," continues the blog post.

As far as what else could be shown, there isn't a clear answer yet. Many fans are waiting for the official title reveal and release date for Part 3 of the Final Fantasy 7 Remake trilogy. There is likely going to be a section dedicated to indie titles, too.

Either way, there haven't been any additional confirmations on games or studios that could appear at the show. This is one of the longest State of Plays in recent memory, though, depending on how long the Wolverine segment runs.

Something else worth noting--PlayStation is partnering with Alamo Drafthouse in the United States to host watch parties across the country on June 2 in major cities, such as Raleigh, Los Angeles, and New York City, which may put fans' expectations even higher than normal and may hint at a much larger show than normal.

The State of Play kicks off on June 2 at 5 p.m. ET/2 p.m. PT and will be available to stream for free on the PlayStation official YouTube and Twitch channels.
