Netflix Quietly Adding Sci-Fi Action Series Canceled 8 Years Ago
Netflix is a massive streaming platform with more than 200 million monthly users. To keep them satisfied, the company creates more than 700 original titles every year to ensure a fresh stream of content.
But that's not all. Netflix also licenses shows and movies from other networks, sometimes with only a few seasons of the respective show or the entire catalogue of its works.
The latter is the case for an action sci-fi series canceled eight years ago that's hitting the streaming platform in June.
'The Last Ship' Coming to Netflix
The Last Ship was initially created for TNT in 2014 and ran five seasons until its cancellation in 2018.
Based on William Brinkley's novel of the same name, The Last Ship follows the crew of a U.S. Navy missile destroyer as they attempt to find a cure and save humanity after a global pandemic wipes out 80 percent of the world's population.
According to What's on Netflix, the series is now heading to Netflix in its entirety with all five seasons hitting streaming on June 22.
What Is 'The Last Ship' About?
Eric Dane stars as Captain Tom Chandler in one of his final lead roles before his untimely death earlier this year.
The series opens with the global pandemic that decimates the world's population.
"After four months of radio silence in remote Antarctica, the crew of the U.S.S. Nathan James is heading home with microbiologist Rachel Scott (Rhona Mitra) - the only person who might hold the key to stopping the virus," a synopsis of the show from Warner Bros. reads.
"But the crew and its captain must wrestle with the reality of their miraculous existence in a world where they are among the few remaining survivors. Now, their duty is to the entire world. Their last mission is the world's only hope - stay alive until a cure is found - for our future, our families and for all humanity."
