Hawaii Five-0 Returns to Netflix with Only the First Five Seasons Available

Hawaii Five-0, the rebooted version of the classic police procedural that ran from 1968-1980, had a successful decade-long run on CBS from 2010-2020. In the middle of that 10-year period, the show also debuted on Netflix, where it had a home from 2015-2019.

Now, seven years after Hawaii Five-0 left Netflix, the series is coming back--with a catch. According to What's on Netflix, Hawaii Five-0 will return to Netflix in the United States and United Kingdom on June 1, but not every episode will be available.

What's the deal with Hawaii Five-0 on Netflix?

Netflix is only adding the first five seasons (118 episodes) of the show, writes What's on Netflix's Kasey Moore. The second half of the series, consisting of 122 episodes across five additional installments, is not being released.

"Currently, there is no official release date for when the back half of the series (Seasons 6-10) will hit Netflix in the US or the UK," Moore writes. "However, this split-season licensing strategy has become incredibly common for Netflix in recent years. By dropping the first five seasons initially, Netflix can gauge subscriber interest. If McGarrett and the team manage to crack the Netflix Top 10 and pull in strong viewing hours, it is highly likely that Netflix and Paramount Global will strike a deal to license the remaining seasons later in the year or in early 2027."

What can fans expect?

If you didn't watch Hawaii Five-0 either when it was on the air or during its first Netflix residency, the show features Alex O'Loughlin as Lieutenant Commander Steve McGarrett, the head of Five-0, and Scott Caan as Detective Sergeant Danny Williams, his second-in-command.

During the first seven seasons, Daniel Dae-Kim played Detective Lieutenant Chin Ho Kelly, with Grace Park portraying Officer Kono Kalakaua.

Taryn Manning, Masi Oka, Lauren German, Chi McBride, Jorge Garcia, Michelle Borth, Meaghan Rath, Taylor Wily, Dennis Chun, Kimee Balmilero, Beulah Koale, Ian Anthony Dale and Katrina Law also had prominent roles, with a slew of impressive guest stars making their presence felt throughout the series.

The first season of Hawaii Five-0 has an 83% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes, while the entire show grades out at 7..4/10 on IMDB.
