'Chud the Builder' Update: Racist Influencer Charged With Attempted Murder

Dalton Eatherly, known by his live-streaming name 'Chud the Builder,' has been charged with attempted murder after shooting a man outside of a courthouse in Tennessee.

Eatherly has gained a following on social media recently by using racist and bigoted language towards Black people and broadcasting it online in an attempt to garner massive engagement. He calls people slurs and tries to bait them into fighting with him. It looks like his tendency to look for confrontation might lead to his downfall.

Eatherly shot a man named Joshua Fox outside of the Montgomery County Courthouse on the afternoon of May 13. Reports indicate that Eatherly was the first to fire his weapon. Fox was sent to Vanderbilt University Medical Center for his injuries. Eatherly was also shot in the arm and was treated for his injuries.

Clarksville Now reported the details of Eatherly's court appearance on Friday.

"During the brief court appearance, in which Eatherly entered wearing a blue jumpsuit reserved for high-risk inmates, Judge H. Reid Poland III advised him of the charges, including attempted criminal homicide, which he said carries a potential 15-to-60-year sentence if convicted.

Poland also explained that the firearm charge normally carries a two to four year sentence, but because of enhancement statutes, it would require a mandatory six‑year sentence at 100% service if Eatherly is convicted and has no prior qualifying convictions. The aggravated assault and reckless endangerment charges each carry three to 15 year sentencing ranges, depending on circumstances and offender status."

The total charges Eatherly faces include attempted criminal homicide, employing a firearm during the commission of a dangerous felony, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment with a deadly weapon. His bond is set at $1.25 million.

Eatherly had previously been arrested in Nashville for resisting arrest and disorderly conduct after getting into an argument in a restaurant. He was broadcasting a racist livestream video and refused to pay for his meal.
