Sheriff Nanos Confirms Ongoing Progress in Nancy Guthrie Investigation

Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos recently spoke out about the current status and focus of the Nancy Guthrie case. After weeks of no real breaks and people wondering about what is happening with the investigation, Nanos revealed whether the search for Savannah Guthrie's mother has gone cold. He also offered an extremely strong statement on the outcome of the case.

Sheriff Nanos' Most Confident Statement on the Nancy Guthrie Case

In the days after Nancy Guthrie disappeared, Pima County Sheriff Chris Nanos regularly engaged with the media to provide updates on the case. Over time, that has become increasingly rare and often limited to him occasionally saying a handful of words to reporters as he enters or leaves his office building. That is what makes his recent extensive comments to People about the case so noteworthy and illuminating.

During his remarks, Nanos provided a lot of important information about the status of the Guthrie investigation. But perhaps the most noteworthy thing he said came when he expressed confidence that the case will ultimately be solved.

"My team, I've said all along, they're gonna solve this. I fully 100 percent believe that."

What Sheriff Chris Nanos Said About the Case Status

In recent weeks, many reports about the Guthrie case have focused on DNA analysis. While speaking to People about that subject, Nanos explicitly stated that he has "confidence in our labs." During that part of the interview, the sheriff specifically addressed something that many observers have been wondering about for some time: whether the case has gone cold.

"I know we have DNA that is unknown who the contributor or depositor is, but I think they're getting closer to finding out who that was… When the labs tell us, 'Hey, there's nothing else we can do,' well, then maybe we've got a problem… we've got a cold case… but right now, the labs aren't telling us that."

The One Detail Investigators Are Focused On

During the same People interview, Sheriff Nanos addressed his team's current focus. He explained that they are working to review evidence from extensive footage that was captured in the area surrounding the scene of the crime.

"There's thousands and thousands of videos out there from intersections and Ring cameras that we have to catalog. Maybe it's all the white trucks are over here, all the red sedans are over here; you've gotta have it so that when you do find a suspect … ‘Hey, the suspect is John Doe, we got him,' now we go and say, ‘Well, what else do we know about John Doe?"

Nanos continued, "'Oh, he drives a white truck. Were there any white trucks in the area at that time? Oh, John Doe has this cellphone number.' You back up to those pieces of evidence that you gathered early on to try to make your case."
