One of the Biggest Movies of 2027 Just Got an Earlier Release Date
The Legend of Zelda is finally coming to the big screen in 2027 after decades of representing Nintendo as one of the grandest video game franchises in the world. Super fans of Link, Zelda, and their adventures in Hyrule got some good news: the movie is coming out a week earlier than originally expected!
The official Nintendo account posted a message from Nintendo legend Shigeru Miyamoto concerning the earlier release date.
"This is Miyamoto. I would like to let you know that the worldwide theatrical release date for the live-action film of The Legend of Zelda has been moved up to April 30, 2027, from May 7. The team is working hard to deliver the film to everyone as soon as possible. There's less than a year to go until release, so thank you for waiting."
Nintendo's decision to move into the movie industry after so many years avoiding it has paid off tremendously in the last few years. The Super Mario Galaxy Movie has been one of the highest grossing movies of the year. It has earned $942 million worldwide as of this article's publishing date.
That massive haul comes three years after the $1.361 billion earnings that The Super Mario Bros. Movie took for Nintendo in 2023. Those movies were both animated and aimed at children and families. The Legend of Zelda will be a whole new animal for the company to tackle.

Live-action and surely to draw in more adults because of it, this film is going to be the barometer for whether Nintendo can adapt some of their more intense games to the big screen without losing the magic of the video games.
Relatively unknown actors have been cast as Link and Zelda. Benjamin Evan Ainsworth will play Link and Bo Bragason will play Zelda. Wes Ball is directing the film and Miyamoto is producing it.
