Five Guys to Close 'At Least' 14 Locations in 2026: Details on Affected States and Dates

The food service industry can be a tough one, even for fast casual chains with established national brands. Recently, we've seen the likes of Subway and Wendy's have to shutter a number of locations for various reasons.

Five Guys remains one of the most popular burger chains in America, and was named the No. 1 fast food burger in the country in a recent study. Still, the Virginia-based corporation has been forced to close some locations around the United States, with more shutdowns on the way.

"At least" 14 Five Guys to close in 2026

According to a report from Fast Company, Five Guys, which boats over 1,900 storefronts around the globe, has closed or will close at least 14 American locations in the early part of 2026.

So far, 10 Five Guys restaurants have been shuttered: four in California alone, plus one each in Florida, Illinois, Iowa, Louisiana, Georgia and Nebraska.

Additionally, four more California Five Guys will close between the end of May and July 2:

  • 10140 Carmenita Rd, Whittier, CA 90605 (closing May 25)
  • 1552 S Azusa Ave, City of Industry, CA 91748 (closing May 26)
  • 3572 G St, Merced, CA 95340 (closing June 26)
  • 1693 W Lacey Blvd Suite A, Hanford, CA 93230 (closing July 2)

It's unclear if there will be any more closures beyond these 14, Fast Company writes.

Not all bad news for Five Guys

Of course, fast food chains never want to close down any of their restaurants, but only 14 locations (so far) isn't too bad for Five Guys.

The company has also received its fair share of positive press recently. Last fall, Five Guys was named the winner of the inaugural Restaurant Business Global Restaurant Leader of the Year award after generating $2.3 million in system sales in America in 2024 and eclipsing the $1 billion system sales mark internationally in 2025.

A recent study from YouGov also named Five Guys the best fast food burger in the United States, with 15.5% of voters putting it No. 1, ahead of Burger King (15.0%), In-N-Out Burger (12.1%), Wendy's (10.2%) and McDonald's (8.7%).
