Nintendo Hints at More Switch 2 2026 Game Releases, Explains Price Increase, and More

Last week, Nintendo confirmed it would be raising the price of the Nintendo Switch 2 from $449.99 to $499.99 on September 1, 2026. Before that, reputable leaker NatetheHate reported a sizable amount of Nintendo's 2026 video game software plans (and maybe some of 2027's). With the recent unveiling of the Star Fox remake, plus new information from Nintendo itself, it seems the leaks are more and more likely to be true.

In a recent investor meeting (text in Japanese and roughly machine translated by IGN), Nintendo has stated it has unannounced titles in the pipeline to be revealed later this year.

"Regarding the future, we are preparing a variety of new titles for Nintendo Switch 2, regardless of whether they are so-called major titles or not. In addition, we have new titles prepared for the second half of this fiscal year, in addition to those already announced, and we will provide details at the appropriate time," said Nintendo president Shuntaro Furukawa.

This comment may stem from the steady drop in the company's stock price since the Nintendo Switch 2's launch last June.

While not a direct confirmation of prior leaks, Furukawa's comment does give more weight to the previous leaks from NatetheHate, the biggest one of which is a purported remake of The Legend of Zelda: Ocarina of Time to be released this holiday season.

Additionally, as a part of the investor meeting, Furukawa offered an explanation for the Switch 2 price increase.

"If the cost increase were temporary and expected to subside relatively quickly, we could have pursued corporate efforts such as improving production efficiency and aimed to expand the installed base while maintaining the hardware price," Furukawa stated. "However, given the recent surge in component prices, particularly memory, and the trends in exchange rates and oil prices, we believe that these market environment changes are expected to continue for the medium to long term."

The Nintendo Switch 2 is still widely reported as the fastest-selling video game console in history, and Furukawa also made a statement about the slowdown in sales.

"The adoption rate of the Nintendo Switch 2 is higher than that of the Nintendo Switch," Furukawa said in response to an investor's question. "At this point, we have no particular concerns about its momentum. The fact that Pokémon Pokopia contributed to hardware sales reaffirmed that having software that customers want to play is an important factor in encouraging the transition to the Nintendo Switch 2."
