Netflix Quietly Adds Huge Collection from The History Channel

Just in time for the United States semiquincentennial, Netflix is partnering up with the History Channel to feature a number of American history documentaries on its streaming service, marking 250th years since the United States Declaration of Independence.

This month, on May 18, the platform will drop seven History Channel original docuseries, which will still be available to watch on America's 250th official Independence Day on July 4.

According to Netflix update and news site What's On Netflix, these titles include the following (loglines courtesy of the History Channel official website and What's On Netflix):

  • Abraham Lincoln: Season 1 (2022) - "The definitive story of our most important president, who led the country during its bloodiest & greatest crisis."
  • FDR: Season 1 (2023) - "[Franklin Delano Roosevelt], a three-part miniseries, redefines our 32nd president's mythic place in American history by showing the viewer a new side of this well-known leader."
  • Grant: Season 1 (2020) - "Based on Ron Chernow's bestselling biography, this cinematic miniseries examines the life of Ulysses S. Grant, capturing his rise from a struggling civilian to the Union's Civil War savior and eventually the 18th President of the United States."
  • The Great War (2024) - "A four-hour cinematic documentary covering U.S. involvement in World War I in the critical year of 1918."
  • Theodore Roosevelt: Season 1 (2022) - "A portrait of the first modern President of the United States, Theodore Roosevelt."
  • Thomas Jefferson: Season 1 (2025) - Tracing the complex legacy of the third U.S. President, this documentary series follows Thomas Jefferson's life from his powerful Virginia roots to his defining role as a galvanizing Founding Father and author of the Declaration of Independence.
  • Washington: Season 1 (2020) - This documentary miniseries chips away the marble to reveal the man at the heart of America's story, tracing George Washington's journey from an ambitious young soldier to the victorious general and first President of the United States.

The titles, part of the ongoing collab between the History Channel and Netflix to mark the United States' 250th birthday, join other documentary shows added last month, including the America: Our Defining Hours (Season 1), The Booze, Bets and Sex That Built America (Season 1), American Godfathers: The Five Families (Season 1) (narrated and executive produced by Michael Imperioli), in addition to Sitting Bull (Season 1) and The Men Who Built America: Frontiersmen (Season 1), the latter two executive produced by Leonardo DiCaprio.
