Victor Wembanyama Confused After Flagrant Foul: "I'm Ejected?"

A game removed from a monstrous 39-point, 15-rebound performance, Victor Wembanyama's time in Game 4 against the Timberwolves was cut short. After elbowing Wolves center Naz Reid, Wembanyama was assessed a flagrant two foul and subsequently ejected from the game. On the bench, Wembanyama appeared confused about the foul, unaware that it came with an automatic ejection.

Unsure of what a flagrant two foul was, Wembanyama asked teammate Harrison Barnes for clarity, who explained to him that he had just been ejected. The star seemed confused at first, but took it in stride. The foul that got him booted from the game occurred early in the second quarter. While fighting for a rebound, Wembanyama cocked back and struck Reid forcefully in the throat.

Whether the elbow was intentional or not is unclear; Wembyanama was given a flagrant two foul, which is given for "unnecessary and excessive contact." In addition to an ejection, a flagrant two also awards the opposing team two free throws and possession of the ball. This move from Wembanyama led fans to make jokes about the time he spent learning Kung Fu with monks at China's Shaolin Temple this offseason. He used Kung Fu to practice mental toughness and body fluidity, but after this incident, some are joking that he may have had ulterior motives.
