Introducing a cat and a baby can sound like an unpredictable or stressful process, but with a little bit of planning and a lot of flexibility, it can be one of the most beautiful moments. One tabby cat named Ziggy experienced this alongside his doting mom and dad when his first baby sister came home from the hospital on May 2.

This affectionate tabby cat is completely smitten with his new little sister, even though they've just met! Their mom, Amy, shared the cutest video of the cat trying his best to 'pet' the newborn only an hour after she came home for the first time, and it couldn't be any cuter.

This proud feline brother has so much love to give! Some cats wouldn't be caught in the same room as a baby, but others can't get enough of their tiny new roommate. Clearly, Ziggy falls into the second category, but he's polite enough to keep his distance instead of climbing into the crib.

"Ziggy, the 'wash your hands before you touch the baby' rule also applies to you," one viewer commented. They may have been joking, but that actually would have helped! Even though he was being a polite little gentleman, Amy wasn't ready to let him actually touch the baby.

She confided in a viewer, "I just don't want kitty litter paws on her! I trust him not to hurt her. Believe me, they've had plenty of time to bond!"

Fortunately, this thoughtful big brother has been finding other ways to build a relationship with his infant human sister. Amy shared that he hangs out by her crib and brings her toys when she cries, so it won't be long before they're the best of friends.

Introducing Cats and Babies

There's no one-size-fits-all approach to introducing cats and babies, but it's always a smart idea to let the feline set the pace of the interaction. Never force a cat to meet a baby! Some cats may need time to get used to all the changes in the home, including the presence of an infant, but others will take to their tiny sibling right away.

To help a cat ease into siblinghood gradually, try giving them one of the baby's used blankets or clothing items to sniff. By the time they meet the baby, their scent will already be familiar!

Ziggy may not have needed any extra time or effort to fall in love with his little sister, but their relationship is only beginning. By the time she's learning to walk and talk, he'll be following her every footstep!
