This Golden Puppy Is Completely Mesmerized by the Dog in the Mirror

When you have a puppy, you get to experience a lot of new firsts with them. The first time they see the beach, their first frisbee catch, and their first encounter with a new dog they've never met before. These are often the best experiences for lifelong memories, and some moments are more memorable than others.

In this video, we meet a Golden Retriever puppy who has completely locked his eyes on a new puppy he's never met before. He's trying to figure out the dog in the mirror, not realizing that it's actually him.

But he doesn't know that's him in the mirror, and instead, he probably thinks his mom hid this new, friendly puppy from him for way too long. At least he's not afraid of his reflection!

In the comments, it was pretty clear pretty quickly that people love Saint and his silly confusion when he looks at himself in the mirror, with many trying to guess what he was thinking.

Do Dogs Recognize Themselves in Mirrors?

Watching Saint, the Golden puppy, see himself in the mirror for the first time is so cute. And it's even more so when we factor in that he's got no idea that he's actually just staring at himself.

According to the American Kennel Club, dogs don't recognize themselves in a mirror, which is why we see Saint looking so perplexed. The club explains that to have self-awareness in a mirror, there needs to be a "certain cognitive sophistication," and that's just not there with dogs.

Seeing your pup look at themselves in the mirror for the first time, they'll probably act either curious or fearful, depending on how the pup typically reacts to dogs they don't know.
