5 Surprising Things You Probably Didn't Know About Red Pandas
Red Pandas are more than just adorable, fluffy creatures that look like stuffed animals. The Peak Wildlife Park recently posted a video that shares five little-known facts about them. Honestly, I didn't know any of them, so I'm thankful I came across their video.

Of course, it helps that they used the most adorable Red Panda in their TikTok video. I've watched it a half dozen times just to see his cute face. As they go through the features, the close-up shots are too cute to resist, especially their little furry paws. So let's get into it!
They first shared that Red Panda tails are "stripy," which helps them camouflage in the wild. Their tails help them blend into their surroundings more effectively, making them less of a target for predators.

Facts two, three, and four all go together and address the Red Panda's extremely thick fur. According to the Peak Wildlife Park's video, their fur is thick to help them stay warm in extremely cold temperatures. These little guys also have ear "insulation" to help protect their inner ear canals in cold weather. They further explain that their tiny paws are covered in thick fur, again to help with the very cold temperatures.
The last feature they discuss is their very sharp claws, which you can probably guess, are used to help them climb trees... where they live!
Where Do Red Pandas Live?
Wild Red Pandas primarily live in the forests of the Eastern Himalayas and Southwestern China. They are solitary animals that generally keep to themselves. Their diet consists mostly of bamboo, which is plentiful throughout the region. You might also be surprised to learn that Red Pandas have opposable thumbs!
The Red Panda Network website provides additional information, including that Red Pandas are about the size of a large house cat and that their main predator is the Snow Leopard.
As someone who loves animals of all species, I really enjoy learning new things about them. I'm grateful for the internet, which provides the most comprehensive information available on just about any species.
