When a cat decides to lay claim to something, they really claim it. That means it's off limits to you, the dog and the lamb.

That's a very specific statement, but it makes sense when you watch this clip posted by animal lover Lee Walters on YouTube, and trust us, you're going to want to see this.

Walters keeps many animals on his land, but the cat is the sassiest by far. In the video below, we watch as the adorable feline suns on a gorgeous rock in the green, but when Walters' dog and baby lamb become curious to check the rock out for themselves, the cat is having none of it.

The dog attempts first, but right away, the cat swats him along, climbing down from his perch only to make sure the dog isn't going to make a second go at rock supremacy.

Meanwhile, the lamb wanders into frame. The adorable creature is satisfied with eating grass at first, but soon sees the cat lounging and thinks, I want to give that a try!

Too bad, little lamb! As soon as the baby sheep pounces onto the rock, the cat is back on the defensive, swatting at his lamb sister until she plops back down, only to have the cat give chase, ensuring the rock stays his own sunny daybed for lazy moments to come.

It's an extremely adorable pastoral scene, and we feel more relaxed just for having seen it.

"This is a very important video," one commenter agrees.

"I think the rock is the real winner here: it never moves, yet its company is always sought after," another says.

"Omg the dog is already like 'yeah, yeah, I know it's your rock. I was just walking!'" another jokes.

How Territorial Are Cats?

It shouldn't be all that surprising that Walters' cat wanted to keep the rock all to himself. Cats, as it turns out, are highly territorial creatures.

If you've got more than one cat at home, you've surely experienced cats and their markings. If a cat claims turf as its own, they'll pee on it, rub the scent glands located in their chins, and even scratch at the surface. These are clear signs the cat is staking their claim!

Certain behaviors trigger these territorial feelings more than others, including introducing new animals to the home or area, or introducing the cat to a new space, such as during a move. A cat can even be triggered to mark their territory by seeing a stray cat out the window.

Cats are likely to chase and hiss at any intruders who come too close to their special area, but you can combat these behaviors by supervising any new meetings between animals and by ensuring each cat or creature in the home or space has their own special area, such as multiple cat trees for multiple cats, and certainly personal litter boxes for each cat in your home.

Of course, some cats are just going to fight for what's theirs, and in this case, Walters' cat isn't doing any real harm. He's just playing king of the mountain-and winning!
