Valerie Bertinelli, 66, Is in ‘Love, Again,’ a Raw New Lifetime Film: ‘I Worked Hard at Taking Down My Walls'
It’s been a little while since Valerie Bertinelli showed her acting skills off on screen, the One Day at a Time star being booked and busy devoting herself to her deeply personal memoir, Getting Naked: The Quiet Work of Becoming Perfectly Imperfect. But this weekend, she prepares to remind the world why we fell in love with her with the premiere of Lifetime’s Love, Again, part of the network’s “Love of a Lifetime” lineup. Here, read all about this impactful film and the effort it took to tell this story of grief, hope, and ultimately, love.
Valerie Bertinelli takes the lead in ‘Love, Again’
In this exciting new Lifetime movie, Valerie Bertinelli stars as Caroline, whose husband Henry (portrayed byHenry Czerny) suffers from early-onset Alzheimer’s. Despite having shared a marriage full of memories and love, Caroline must grapple with the loss of her husband right before her eyes as the man she once knew slowly slips away. In the midst of all of this, she finds strength in her friendship with Leo (Eric McCormack), giving her the courage to keep going.
The film depicts an experience many have endured, and for Valerie, bringing the role to life in a way that was authentic and truthful required her to dig deep. “I just worked really hard at taking down my walls and all the barriers that I have developed over the many decades…and all of the grief and all of the life experiences that I’ve had,” the actress shared with People. “I just wanted to have them all right there on the surface and just be raw.”
She continued, “I don’t know that I would ever want to go through what Caroline went through…but I think because I was writing my book during the middle of this, it really helped me open up and be a little bit more brave.”
