Siberian Kitten Meets Mini Aussie Pup and Immediately Makes It Awkward
Those first meetings between a dog and a new kitten always come with some tension and uncertainty, especially when you're not too sure how the kitten will act meeting your super-excited dog, who approaches everything with layers and layers of excitement. And when you add the size difference between a kitten and a dog, but the kitten's got big dog energy, making her seem larger than life, the meeting can become awkward in the best ways possible.
In this video, we meet a tiny Siberian kitten who is doing her best to seem larger than life as she meets her new sibling, a very happy Mini Aussie puppy who is just excited to be there. It's impossible not to smile and laugh at this one, so take a look!

On April 26, TikTok user Carly | Pet + Home Creator (@hercozycrew) shared a video of her adorable, tiny Siberian kitten meeting her very cute Miniature American Shepherd pup. The two are now siblings, and at first, they're a little wary of each other, not sure what to think.
The funniest part of this interaction between the kitten named Sprout and the dog named Widget is that they're both extremely awkward, and it didn't go super smoothly.
"When you're just a tiny kitten, and you're not sure if the dog is friend or foe yet," the caption of the video reads, which is very fitting. Cause it looks like the kitten is trying to act big and tough, despite not being either, no matter how hard she tries, and the dog is just being a silly, goofy, excited pup.

How To Safely Introduce Kittens and Dogs
It's always such an exciting time to grow your family, and adding a kitten to the mix means life is about to get more enjoyable. But for the family members who are already there, it's important to remember that there will be a transition period as everyone gets to know each other. If you're introducing a kitten and a dog, experts say there are a few tips to follow to ensure it's as smooth a process as possible, safe, and conducive to a good relationship for life.
According to the Ontario SPCA and Humane Society, understanding your dog and cat's breeds is important because not all dogs get along well with smaller animals. If you're not fully sure of your dog or cat's exact breeds, the adoption center typically has some ideas on how well the pup or kitty will integrate with families, so that's a good place to start.
When you've got your dog and cat now at home, you need to ensure your pup is never around your cat without a lead, and they should never be left alone for a while, either. Ensure your kitty has their own safe zone at home that's away from the noise and the dog.
From there, the idea is to create positive experiences when they're together. Having two people around is good, too: one for the dog and the other for the kitty, so each can be rewarded with a treat for behaving well.
From there, the introduction should be very slow and should proceed only at the pace your pets "tell" you they're ready for. Make sure the dog's fed and walked before meeting with the kitten, so some of their energy is released beforehand. Start by letting them smell each other from a distance and get used to their scents.
From there, you can slowly observe them in neutral settings, making sure safety for both is the top priority. Use lots of treats, slow things down if tensions rise, and they will gradually be able to hang out closer together, and ideally, become happy friends. If you're struggling or unsure along the way, it's always good to check in with your veterinarian.
Then, before you know it, your dog and cat can become silly, happy friends like Sprout and Widget.
