As ‘Michael' Continues Riding Box Office Success, Paris Jackson Debuts Her Own Movie

The legacy of Michael Jackson is undeniable: he continues to reign as the King of Pop even in death, and his biopic Michael continues to do big numbers at the box office worldwide. While nephew Jaafar, who starred as the "Beat It" singer on the big screen, has been a driving force in reminding fans of his uncle's lasting music influence, Michael's own daughter Paris represents his legacy in a slightly different way, showing a little of what she learned about entertaining from her father.

For those who don't know, Paris is actually a solid singer. She doesn't really mimic her father's sound, but her songs are good in their own right. Outside of music, she's also become quite the actress. Paris has appeared in things like Ryan Murphy's American Horror Stories, Lee Daniels' Star, and Donald Glover's Swarm. And she's now on the big screen in cinemas, even as her father's biopic carries on in its theatrical run.

Paris Jackson Stars in ‘One Spoon of Chocolate'

One Spoon of Chocolate is a new independent film that was widely released on May 1 and stars Jackson, alongside Shameik Moore (Wu-Tang: An American Saga), RJ Cyler (The Harder They Fall), Blair Underwood (Madea's Family Reunion), Rockmond Dunbar (9-1-1), and more. Here is the official synopsis of the project written and directed by member of the legendary Wu-Tang Clan, RZA:

"RZA's One Spoon of Chocolate follows Unique (Shameik Moore, Wu-Tang: An American Saga and voice of Miles Morales in the Spider-Verse films), a veteran and ex-convict seeking a fresh start in the small town of Karensville. After an altercation with a gang of hostile locals, he starts to suspect they have something to do with the disappearance of young Black men in the area - including his cousin. As he digs for the truth, he finds himself the target of not just the gang but the local sheriff's office, whose involvement in the disappearances may be even more sinister. Instead of waiting for his turn to be picked off, Unique and those closest to him (Paris Jackson, RJ Cyler) decide to fight back in this sharply satirical and stylish action thriller from the visionary leader of the Wu-Tang Clan."

Does ‘Michael' or ‘One Spoon of Chocolate' Have Better Reviews?

As talked about at length, Michael may be loved by fans, but critics, by and large, have not been kind. On Rotten Tomatoes, the movie has a combined Tomatometer score of 39% as of publication. Sad to say, but critics have also not been favorable to Paris' film. One Spoon of Chocolate has a score of 37%.

That being said, it's worth noting that like Michael, moviegoers seem to think better of the RZA production. Searching through the reviews left by viewers on Rotten Tomatoes, you'll find things like, "Great movie! Action packed with a lesson we all need!," "very powerful! Want a better ending," and "Fantastic movie with amazing fight scenes and a clear message!!!"

The best way to determine if critics or moviegoers are right when it comes to One Spoon of Chocolate is to watch it yourself. Again, it's now in theaters.
