The first reason, which he explains while swinging his arms to and fro to some very upbeat dance music, is that dogs' wild ancestors would frequently eat grass.

So, this is a behavior that dogs inherit from their ancestors.

The next reason he gives, while shimmying and rubbing his hands across his stomach and back, is that dogs will eat grass if they experience upset digestion.

So, dogs with upset stomachs eat grass. This can help them vomit, clearing whatever is upsetting their stomach from their system.

This vet delivers his third and final take while moving his arms around in something that resembles the 90s dance craze, the Macarena. His tip: eating grass is a possible symptom of dog fiber deficiency.

Some dogs require more fiber than others, so if they are not getting enough from their food, they will start eating grass.

Viewers on social media are definitely interested in this topic. After all, this video has hundreds of comments.

However, not everyone agreed that this vet's dance moves were necessary for the video: "Why did he feel the need to dance the answers out?"

Some TikTok users even stated that this distracted them from the entire point of the video, the reasons dogs eat grass: "I can't seem to read the post… I keep getting distracted by what I presume to be his ‘dance moves.' What is this video even about?"

Why Dogs Eat Grass and When to Be Concerned

With this canine behavior explained, it's clear that dogs eating grass is a common behavior. Usually, it's not a symptom of a serious underlying issue.

However, sometimes it can be a cause for concern. Even though grass itself is not inherently toxic for dogs, it can be dangerous depending on what is in or on the grass.

Some lawns have been sprayed with pesticides, herbicides, or chemical fertilizers that will poison dogs.

Grass can also contain parasite eggs from hookworms or roundworms from the feces of other animals, which can give dogs intestinal parasites, resulting in weight loss, diarrhea, or malnutrition.

Grass is also indigestible for dogs. If a dog consumes too much grass at once, they could develop a life-threatening intestinal blockage.

This is why many pet parent tips suggest it's always a good idea to supervise dogs when they're outside.
