Will Smith's Romantic Comedy 'Hitch' Joins Netflix This Friday Alongside More Than 40 New Movies
Netflix will add over 40 movies to its streaming library this Friday, May 1. Several of the new titles feature high-profile performers, including Will Smith.
Hitch, the 2005 romantic comedy starring Smith as "date doctor" Alex "Hitch" Hitchens, is one of the films joining Netflix at the end of the week.
The smooth-talking Hitchens "finds his proven methods failing when he meets a cynical gossip columnist who might just be his perfect match," says What's on Netflix.
More on 'Hitch'
In addition to Smith, Hitch stars Kevin James as Albert Brennaman, one of Hitch's clients, and Amber Valletta as Allegra, Brennaman's love interest. Eva Mendes appears as Sara Melas, who has Smith's character smitten.
Other prominent cast members include Paula Patton, Philip Bosco, Michael Rapaport, Jeffrey Donovan, Julie Ann Emery, Adam Arkin, Jeffrey Carlson and Rain Phoenix.
The movie, which is currently available for free on Tubi as well as for purchase on several other streaming platforms, holds a 68% approval rating on Rotten Tomatoes. It is also rated 6.6/10 on IMDB and received 2.5 out of 4 stars from acclaimed critic Roger Ebert after it was released.
"Considerably heavier on romance than comedy, "Hitch" stitches together relatively few laughs but generates enough goodwill and energy to keep much of the audience in its corner," wrote Variety's Brian Lowry back in February 2005. "Although the script can't sustain the premise - and saddles the actors with some truly leaden dialogue - a buoyant second-banana turn by Kevin James and the few chuckle-worthy moments help compensate for the arid stretches. Given the notable dearth of quality fare in this genre, those attributes should strike Sony with Cupid's arrow in the form of reasonably happy date-night returns."
What else is coming to Netflix?
On Friday, May 1, Netflix is adding movies such as Pretty Woman, The Breakfast Club, Meet the Parents, Green Book, Waterworld and Bad News Bears, in addition to Hitch.
