Michael Jackson's Friend, Chris Tucker, Has a Strong Opinion about ‘Michael' Movie

Heading into the weekend of April 24, on top of mind for many Americans is the 2026 NFL Draft and, of course, Michael, the highly anticipated Michael Jackson biopic that is now in theaters. Despite early reviews from critics pretty much trashing the film, moviegoers by and large appear to have fallen in love with it (as of April 24, Michael has a Rotten Tomato score of 38% from critics and 96% from viewers). With such a wide gap between the "tastemakers" and the average moviegoers, or perhaps just Jackson fans, one of his celebrity friends is weighing in with a strong opinion of his own.

Rush Hour's Chris Tucker Weighs in on ‘Michael' Movie

In case you didn't know, it's been pretty well-known that Jackson and Rush Hour's Chris Tucker were friends for years before the King of Pop's passing in 2009. In fact, Tucker made an appearance in Jackson's 2001 "You Rock My World" video, and in the years since Jackson died, Tucker has continued to speak highly of his buddy. That being said, one may think Tucker's opinion on the new Michael film should carry some weight. Did he take the side of critics, or that of fans and Jackson's family?

As it turns out, in a video found on X (formerly Twitter), Tucker claims to have seen the biopic twice and is vying for a third time. Specifically, he stated:

"Ow, you guys go see the Michael movie man. I've done saw it twice. I'm going back to see it again. It's the best movie I've ever saw, after Rush Hour. I mean, it's a great movie. Go see the Michael movie. My boy, MJ, Michael Jackson movie, off the chain. Great movie."

Well, that's quite the glowing recommendation, and it defies critics, aligning with fans. Michael is again playing in movie theaters worldwide. Visit Fandango or the website of your preferred cinema to purchase tickets.
