These Meerkats Have Tiny Lounge Chairs-and They Use Them Like People
The Peak Wildlife Park meerkats are going viral for a reason, and it only takes a second to see why. In a now-circulating clip, the tiny animals are perched in miniature lounge chairs, sitting upright in a way that looks almost too human to be real.
Watching these meerkats sitting like people-calm, relaxed, and totally at home-feels less like a wildlife moment and more like stumbling into a tiny outdoor café run by meerkats. It all happened thanks to a clever and creative volunteer named Martin, who gifted the adorable miniatures to his tiniest animal friends.
@peakwildlifepark Huge thanks to our wonderful volunteer Martin for gifting the meerkats these adorable new deck chairs just in time for summer, safe to say they're obsessed #cuteanimals#peakwildlifepark#meerkats#funnyanimals#funnyanimalstiktok

Meerkats by themselves are as adorable as can be, but meerkats sitting like people unlock an entire new level of cuteness. No wonder Peak Wildlife Park couldn't wait to share this clever animal enrichment idea with their social media fans. Martin deserves a major pat on the back for thinking of this!
"This is even better than I could have hoped," commented @feelsbackflip. The bewildered meerkats took to their new chairs right away! It's mind-blowing to see how quickly the meerkats understood their new furniture was perfect to sit on, but then again, sitting upright and even standing upright are what these African mammals do best.
The National Zoo explains why meerkats' affinity for sitting up is no fluke. As one of the smaller members of the mongoose family, meerkats rely on sentinels and communication to keep the group-called a 'mob'-safe from predators. Individuals take turns acting as lookout while standing on their hind legs and scanning for threats, though many meerkats spend their off-duty time sitting up to socialize and look around.
How Zoos Use Enrichment to Keep Animals Engaged
Zoos and wildlife parks have the unique challenge of caring for many different exotic animal species, and caring for their health and habitats is only the beginning. Every animal (including humans) needs enrichment to live a fun and fulfilling life, whether that means playing with toys or adding new, interactive pieces to their enclosures.
