A Los Angeles cat owner has gone viral after sharing a heartwarming video that shows just how far she is willing to go to keep her feline companion happy.

The short clip, posted to Instagram in March under the username @biscuitqueenla, has captured the attention of hundreds of thousands of viewers.

In the video, the kitty can be seen following her owner to the fridge, clearly aware that something special is about to happen. The owner then opens the fridge and takes out a fresh leaf of lettuce, which she grows directly inside it. She offers the lettuce to her cat, who eagerly bites into it as if a juicy steak.

The sweet moment is paired with a caption that adds even more context to the unusual routine: “How do I explain to her sitter that she requires 1 lettuce leaf a day.” It then adds, “And we're also growing lettuce in the closet just for her…”

Sunvet Animal Wellness explains that, although felines are obligate carnivores, many naturally eat grass or greens, and this behavior may serve several purposes.

Possible reasons include aiding digestion, helping expel hairballs or indigestible material through vomiting, supplying nutrients such as folic acid, relieving constipation, or even reducing intestinal parasites by cleaning the gut.

Greens are not essential but can provide beneficial fiber and support digestive health, especially for indoor cats that lack access to natural plants. Common options include wheatgrass or mixed grasses, which contain various vitamins and minerals.

The article suggests offering safe, edible plants or vegetables in moderation, ideally cooked for easier digestion, and avoiding chemically treated plants. However, not all greens are good for cats, so consult your veterinarian to find out which herbs and vegetables are safe for felines to consume.

Since being uploaded, the Instagram video has continued to spread across the platform. It has so far received more than 748,000 views and over 41,400 likes, marking it as one of the owner's most-popular posts.

One user, Smile.scully_, commented: “I had a cat like this…you could not make a salad or a burger with lettuce without sharing with my baby. She’d sit on the table and wait for her piece.”

Courtneyheals said: “Omg [oh my God] a PERFECT angel baby, getting her greens.”

Dangerousetangerine added: “My cat requires 2 leaves of spinach daily and I MUST feed it to her by hand.”
