Chaplaincy grief care classes available this fall
Chaplaincy grief care is offering free grief support groups and classes this fall.
▪ Understanding Grief: An Introduction will be held from 10 a.m. to noon Sept. 16, from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Oct. 12, and from noon to 2 p.m. and 6 to 8 p.m. Dec. 14. The class covers common grief reactions, uniqueness of each person’s grief, as well as healthy coping strategies and includes a 30-minute DVD. ▪ Coming to Terms with Loss Group is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 12-Nov. 14 on Tuesdays or Sept. 14-Nov. 16 on Thursdays. The group is open to adults experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. ▪ Widowed Support Group will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 12-Nov. 14 on Tuesdays, from noon to 1:30 p.m. Sept. 13-Nov. 15 on Wednesdays, or 6 to 7:30 p.m. Sept. 13-Nov. 15 on Wednesdays. This group welcomes widowers and partners who are experiencing grief due to the death of a loved one. Books available to borrow and can be purchased for $27. ▪ Cork’s Place Support Groups for Grieving Children, Teens and their Families. Sessions are for children and adolescents 3 to 17 years old. Ongoing groups meet regularly following the school year calendar. A separate support group for parents and guardians meets at the same time children or teens are in their session. ▪ Grieving Parent’s Support Group is from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every second and fourth Wednesday of every month at the Spaulding Facility, 1480 Fowler St., Richland. The group is available to adults experiencing grief due to the death of a child of any age. To register, call Craig at 509-572-8349.
▪ First Year and Beyond: Drop-In Support Group will be held from noon to 1:30 p.m. the first Thursday of each month and from 6 to 7:30 p.m. every third Monday of the month. This drop-in format provides support to those who have experienced the death of a spouse or partner without the commitment of a 10-week group. Participants have the opportunity to come share a cup of coffee, tea, and refreshments while remembering their loved one and learning about grief. ▪ Chaplaincy Survivors of Suicide Support Group is from 6:30 to 7:30 p.m. the first and third Wednesdays of every month at the Entiat Facility, 2108 W. Entiat Ave., Kennewick. The class is open those who have suffered from the loss of a loved one by suicide. Books available to borrow and can be purchased for $27. ▪ Hope for the Holidays Class will be held from noon to 2 p.m. Nov. 4, from 4 to 6 p.m. Nov. 8, and from noon to 2 p.m. Dec. 2. The class is open to grieving adults seeking information to better navigate the holiday season following a loss. Topics covered include setting boundaries on expectations, being flexible, recreating or changing traditions, bringing special touches of loved ones into the holidays, gifts and gift giving, and having a plan.
