Seven people hurt in Interstate 82 wreck caused by blown tire

Seven people were hurt Friday afternoon when the van they were riding in crashed about 10 miles south of Kennewick.

The Ford E350 was headed west on Interstate 82 at about 4 p.m. when the left rear tire blew, the Washington State Patrol reported.

The driver over-corrected and the van hit a guardrail, then rolled down a ravine and came to rest on its top, troopers said.

Carlos H. Gil Arredondo, 49, of Pasco, the driver, and six passengers — all from Pasco — were taken to area hospitals. The passengers are William B. Erazo Grazo, 35; Elizabeth S. Portugal, 30; Silvestre U. Alvarez, 60; Rene Sanchez Ruiz, 50; Sorangel Topasco, 34; and Wiliam V. Erasmo, 34.

Portugal was in satisfactory condition Saturday at Kadlec Regional Medical Center in Richland. An update on Erasmo wasn’t available.

The others were all treated and released from Kadlec or Trios Southridge Hospital in Kennewick.

Drugs and alcohol weren’t involved, and the cause was defective equipment, troopers said.
