Dennis Quaid's Ex-Wife Kimberly Served in Ongoing $14K Child Support Battle

Dennis Quaid's ex-wife, Kimberly Buffington, has officially been served in the actor's battle to terminate his $13,750 monthly child support payments for twins Thomas and Zoe, 18, Us Weekly can exclusively reveal.

According to court documents obtained by Us, Buffington, 54, was handed the paperwork by a process server at her $3.8 million Los Angeles home on June 29, just five days before what would have been their 22-year wedding anniversary. (The pair married on July 4, 2004, but filed for divorce in 2016).

The documents included everything that has been filed in the case, including the 72-year-old actor's declaration of income and expenses as well as his petition to renegotiate his pricey court-ordered child support payments.

The exes' hearing on the matter is scheduled for July 28.

Us reached out to Quaid and Buffington's lawyers for comment.

As Us previously reported, Quaid filed the petition in May to terminate the nearly $14,000 per month payments he was making to his ex-wife for their twins.

The Parent Trap actor cited the terms of his 2018 divorce agreement with Buffington, which stated that the payments would end "when a child completes 12th grade." Quaid argued that Zoe graduated from high school on May 23, while Thomas was set to graduate on June 3.

While their divorce agreement stated that Quaid is required to pay his ex an additional sum each year if he makes more than $1.3 million, he requested that any bonus amount be prorated to the date of his kids' graduations.

In 2020, Quaid filed documents telling the judge he was willing to pay more in child support based on his boosted income as long as it was "based on the reasonable needs of Thomas and Zoe."

Quaid tied the knot with Buffington in 2004. They welcomed Thomas and Zoe three years later.

The exes have a complicated past.

Quaid and Buffington separated and filed for divorce in March 2012, before briefly reconciling the following month. They split again that October, and Buffington filed for legal separation. That request, however, was dismissed when they reconciled a second time.

Buffington filed for divorce for the final time in 2016.

"After careful consideration, we have decided to end our 12-year marriage," they told TMZ in a statement at the time. "The decision was made amicably and with mutual respect toward one another. We will always remain great friends and devoted partners in raising our children."

Their divorce was finalized in 2018.

Before Buffington, Quaid was married to P.J. Soles from 1978 to 1983 and Meg Ryan from 1991 to 2001. He wed his fourth wife, Laura Savoie, in June 2020.

"God is in our relationship. That [had] never even occurred to me before," Quaid exclusively told Us earlier this year. "I thought, ‘Well, I have a relationship with God, so did she,' but to have God be the third entity in the relationship is kind of a new idea. But that's really the way it is."

He explained that the couple's shared faith helps them maintain a healthy relationship.

"Otherwise you would wind up making the other person," Quaid said. "You look to the other person to solve your problems, and we're not equipped to do that. There's a lot of things that we have, the baggage coming in [to a relationship], and it's stuff that you need an expert [to deal with] - and that would be God."
