'Love Island UK' Star Addresses Being Removed for Connection to Stabbing
Love Island UK‘s Gabriel Garland broke his silence after being removed from the villa due to an alleged link to a 2019 stabbing.
"There was an incident that happened at a party I was at when I was a teenager," Garland, 24, said in an Instagram video on Friday, July 3. "This incident is obviously one that should not be taken lightly and was very traumatic for everyone concerned. I just wanted to make it clear that the legal judge had found no wrongdoing against me and I don't have a criminal record."
Garland noted that he wanted to "clear a few things up" after "everything that's been said about" him since he exited the villa. He confirmed that the incident "resulted in me leaving Love Island, which is very disappointing."
The reality star concluded the post by thanking those who sent him "kind and supportive messages," adding, "I do just want to move forward from this in a positive way. Thank you."
Garland left the villa after it was reported that production became aware of him being named in court documents linked to a 2019 stabbing. Garland's name was referenced in court documents but he was not convicted of any offense, according to The Guardian.
The documents referenced an incident on New Year's Eve in 2019 when a man named Vitor Mazzer was found guilty of two counts of grievous bodily harm with intent. Garland, meanwhile, had an altercation with the stabbing victims - and was not convicted on any charges.
Earlier in the season, bombshell George Knight left the experience as well due to "private reasons." The US version, meanwhile, had Vasana Montgomery cut from the show after resurfaced social media posts showed her using a slur.
More recently, bombshell Alannah Keyser got pulled from the season after facing backlash for a resurfaced video that allegedly showed her using a racial slur. She broke her silence on the scandal on Saturday, June 27.
"Hi everyone, I'm coming on here to address some things that have been circulated online. I do want to begin by addressing the video of me singing along to a Roddy Ricch song that contains a racial slur. I'm sorry to whoever has seen that video and has been offended by it. That was never my intention," Alannah said on TikTok. "The video is from six years ago and that word is just not in my vocabulary anymore."
She continued, "I'd also like to address the screenshots that have been going around online that have been falsified. What has been shared does not reflect the truth and it has never been in my character to discriminate against anybody's skin color. I do want to say directly that I do not support racism or discrimination of any kind and I never have."
Similar issues arose during season 7, with Yulissa Escobar leaving days into the experience last year after clips of her using racial slurs on a podcast circulated online.
Season 7's Cierra Ortega also faced backlash for using a slur in her own resurfaced social media post. She was pulled from the villa and later issued an apology for her past behavior.
