Mr. Movie: ‘Jason Bourne’ full of intense action sequences
Jason Bourne looks like all of the other Bourne flicks. Matt Damon reprises the role, and like the other movies, finds himself globe-hopping trying to unravel the mystery of who he is and how he got where he is today.
And — as with the others — he’s at odds with the CIA. In this film, the CIA director Robert Dewey, played by Tommy Lee Jones, wants to do away with him and get rid of the Bourne problem once and for all. No surprise, since all of the movies — even the Jeremy Renner flick Bourne Legacy — have been about doing away with the guy.
Bourne knows too much and — worse — the more Bourne learns, the madder he gets.
Dewey enlists a top agency hacker Heather Lee — played nicely by Alicia Vikander — to track and trap Bourne. He, via some handy outside help, has learned some things that make him even more dangerous to the agency.
At the helm again is Paul Greengrass, who did Bourne Supremacy and Bourne Ultimatum. He also directed Captain Phillips. Greengrass follows the formula. Action is in fast, intense sequences, where each piece of a scene isn’t seen on the screen for longer than a second. A silent, stoic Bourne stalks the movie, easily taking out the CIA killers and is — typical — one step ahead of his pursuers.
In other words, if you’ve seen one, you’ve seen them all. So who cares? Buckle up, suspend disbelief and enjoy the ride.
