Mr. Movie: ‘Paprika’ is clever film about dreams
‘Paprika’
I don’t really like anime. These films look so much like each other that it’s easy to confuse one with another. Paprika is different. It’s an amazing piece of work done by Satoshi Kon. Scientists have invented a machine where a therapist can share dreams with a patient. It gets stolen, and a terrorist tries to turn the dreamworld into reality.
The film is simple yet clever. Dreams enter dreams and other dreams, and reality twists and bends, and the character can never decide if they’re awake or asleep. And neither can you.
Brilliant stuff.
Cost is $4 for adults and $2 for kids, or $14 for all seven films. Admission is free for Washington State University Tri-Cities students. Tickets are available at the door.
You Vs. Mr. Movie class planned April 23
Learn how to review movies at a You Vs. Mr. Movie class with the Herald’s movie reviewer, Gary Wolcott.
You will start by watching The Jungle Book April 23 at Carmike Cinemas, 1380 N. Louisiana St., Kennewick.
Afterward, the class will convene at Southridge High School, 3320 Southrdige Blvd., also in Kennewick. There, Mr. Movie will go through the ins and outs of how to review a movie.
It costs $23 and includes the ticket.

3 stars to 2 1/2 stars: Wait until it comes out on DVD.
