‘Victor Frankenstein’ worst movie of the year

Victor Frankenstein casts James McAvoy (X-Men series) as the mad scientist and Harry Potter’s Daniel Radcliffe gets stuck as his harried assistant Igor. You know the gist of the story, but like all, director Paul McGuigan (Wicker Park) and screenwriter Max Landis (American Ultra) offer their own twists. Igor is — and then isn’t — a hunchback. There’s a dark family secret involved and a religious zealot detective hard on their trail.

And Igor has a love interest.

Lame as it is, and as little chemistry that Radcliffe has with Jessica Brown Findlay’s (Winter’s Tale) Lorelei, it may be the only interesting thing about the movie. Let’s face it, the concept ran its course decades ago.

Since1910, there have been 75 movies, TV shows and mini-series, and unsold movies and TV pilots featuring Victor Frankenstein’s monster as either the focus or a character.

While I haven’t seen them all, I’ve seen quite a few and can count on one hand the number that have been good. One of the worst of the 75 is the latest, Victor Frankenstein. This one is so bad, it’s definitely going to sit close to the top of my worst of the year list — if not at the top.
