Mr. Movie review: ‘Storks’ packed with laughs for kids, adults

Babies used to be delivered by storks. Time marches on and the myth of yesteryear now gathers dust on a shelf. These days, the storks in Storks work for Cornerstone and deliver more important things like packages containing techno gadgets and gizmos.

High-flying Junior is up for a promotion, but to get it, he has to fire the reason storks quit delivering babies. That reason is 18-year-old Tulip. She is baby who didn’t get delivered and is the reason storks ventured into new delivery territory. Tulip is a sweet, goofy klutz and is a company embarrassment. Junior can’t make himself fire her, so he buries her in the mail room.

There, she finds the dormant baby-making machine, and makes a baby for a little boy named Nate. Nate is desperate for attention from his parents and desires a baby brother.

Storks must have been a blast to write, record and animate. Andy Samberg, Katie Crown, Kelsey Grammer and Jennifer Aniston do the voices. It is directed by Nicholas Stoller (Neighbors and Forgetting Sarah Marshall). Stoller packs his film with serious laughs ranging from big, hearty, guffaws to tiny snickers. Liberally peppered in between is wall to wall smiles.

Storks delivers more than just babies. Rarely will you find an animated feature that is kid and adult friendly. It has broad swaths of humor that appeals to both. So pack the kids or grandkids, and catch what is hands down the funniest movie of the year.
