Zach and Colton Swon spend a lot of time together.

The musical siblings — known as The Swon Brothers — write together, record together, perform together, tour together.

And while they’ve had unquestionable success — from their run on NBC’s The Voice, to their new, well-received EP Timeless, to their current stint on Carrie Underwood’s Storyteller tour — Zach Swon said he’s looking forward to one particular milestone.

“I can’t wait until we’re big enough to have separate buses,” he said.

Zach, the eldest of the two Oklahoma-bred Swon brothers, was kidding.

He and Colton have their spats, but sharing this wild musical ride with one another has been meaningful, both guys told the Herald.

“We’re the only two siblings (in our family). Having your brother with you on the road — it makes you work harder. You’re not only working for yourself, but don’t want to let your brother down,” Zach said.

“For me, it comes down to — I get to do what I do with my brother,” Colton added. “Not a lot of people get to do that.”

The Swon Brothers are stopping in Kennewick on Aug. 27 to perform at the Benton Franklin Fair & Rodeo. They go on at 7:30 p.m.

Reserved seats are $15. General admission seating is free with fair admission.

The Swon Brothers rose to prominence with their stint on the fourth season of The Voice. They earned a spot on Blake Shelton’s team and placed third.

They went on to release the self-titled The Swon Brothers, and this past January, they dropped Timeless.

They’re on the road now with Carrie Underwood, whom they’ve known for years.

Underwood is from the same part of Oklahoma as the guys, and she and the Swons often turned up at the same music and talent competitions as kids.

“We knew of her because she’s always been amazing. The voice that she has now is the voice she had when she was 12,” said Zach, who also went to college with Underwood.

The Swons practically have music in their blood. Their parents had a gospel group, and at age 3, Zach got his first drum set.

Colton also showed musical talent early on. “Even as a toddler, the kid could sing harmony,” Zach said. “At 12, I picked up guitar and piano. And (Colton) came along and started playing bass guitar and guitar.”

For the brothers, writing and recording music is fun. But getting up on stage — that’s something especially exhilarating.

It’s a feeling like no other, Zach said.

“Having a crowd in front of you and band behind you — it’s the best feeling in the world,” he said. “We’re very blessed to get to do this for living.”

They said they look forward to the Kennewick show. And they want fans to reach out on Facebook, Twitter or Instagram to request songs for them to play.

The fair runs Aug. 23-27 at the Benton County fairgrounds in Kennewick. For more on the fair, go to bentonfranklinfair.com.
