Memorial concert set June 3 in Richland to honor longtime hospice worker

A memorial concert is planned June 3 in Richland to honor a longtime hospice nursing assistant who died unexpectedly in April.

Joan Crain spent 20 years as a certified nursing assistant for Hospice at The Chaplaincy.

“(She) was known for her deep and quiet compassion, and for the dignity she offered each person in their dying, regardless of social status,” a Chaplaincy news release said.

The concert will feature pianist Erik Flaten, a Tri-City native who now is based in San Francisco.

Flaten studied music at Central Washington University and went onto serve as an adjunct faculty member of New York University’s Steinhardt School.

He holds a master’s degree in piano performance from San Francisco State University.

The concert starts at 7 p.m. at Northwest United Protestant Church, 1312 Sacramento Blvd.

Admission is by donation, with proceeds going to the Joan Crain Memorial Fund to support hospice care.
