Dayton Days to include artisans, activities on May 28
All four museums in Dayton will celebrate Dayton Days on May 28.
The Dayton Historic Depot will have artists demonstrating and selling their work from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
A master blacksmith will be on hand, and “visitors will be able to see wool made into art and watch a painter create art on canvas. They will discover the art of fine embroidery and learn to make beaded jewelry. All of the art will be accompanied by good old-fashioned ukulele music,” a news release said.
Smith Hollow School will have a spelling bee from 1:15 to 2:15 p.m. and a math competition from 1:45 to 2:45 p.m. “Throughout the day, they will have children’s school games including marbles, art on the blackboard, jacks, pick-up sticks, and checkers. They will also provide the opportunity to use an old-fashioned rotary dial phone, a typewriter and a player piano,” the release said.
The Palus Museum will have artisans demonstrating weaving and beadwork from 9:30 to 11:30 a.m.
And, from from 11:30 a.m. to 2:30 p.m., Boldman House Museum will give a glimpse into daily life from the early 20th century.
“Visitors will learn about old time tools, make a whirligig and use a washboard and wringer to do laundry. They will have the opportunity to plant flowers in the Boldman Garden, learn to make a spoon-doll, and enjoy homemade bread with creamy fresh butter that they have churned,” the release said.
Activities are free.
