‘Annie,’ ‘Rent’ and ‘Once’ among Broadway shows coming to Toyota Center in 2016-17

The 2016-17 season of Broadway at the Windermere Theater in the Toyota Center has been announced.
The 2016-17 season of Broadway at the Windermere Theater in the Toyota Center has been announced.

From acrobats, to strangers who connect through song, to a spunky orphan, to New York City artists living La Vie Bohéme — a wide variety of Broadway shows will visit Kennewick in the coming months.

The 2016-17 season of Broadway at the Windermere Theater in the Toyota Center — announced Wednesday — includes the shows Cirque Dreams Holidaze, Once, Annie and Rent.

Season subscriptions are on sale now for $200 to $300, depending on the seat.

Tickets to individual shows also will be available.

Jam Theatricals is presenting the series.

“We are excited that the upcoming season has a wide variety of programming, including the Tri-Cities’ premiere of eight-time Tony Award-winner Once,” said Steve Traxler, the company’s president, in a news release.

To learn more about season subscriptions, go to the Toyota Center box office, visit www.yourtoyotacenter.com or call 509-737-3722. An open house to provide subscription information also is planned from 5-7 p.m. May 11 at the Toyota Center, 7000 W. Grandridge Blvd.

Here’s a little more about each show:

▪  Cirque Dreams Holidaze, 7 p.m. Dec. 21.

“This circus-like holiday stage spectacular features ornaments, costumes and acrobatics that come alive celebrating holiday themes, music and traditions for the entire family,” a news release said. It features more 300 costumes, 20 acts and 30 artists from around the world.

▪  Once, 7 p.m. Jan. 19.

The show won eight Tony Awards in 2012, including Best Musical.

It centers on two musicians who meet in Dublin and find inspiration in their brief time together. Featuring actors who play their own instruments on stage, the show is “emotionally captivating and theatrically breathtaking... (it) draws you in from the very first note and never lets go,” the release said.

▪  Annie, 7 p.m. Feb. 3.

The beloved musical centers on the titular orphan who lives a hard-knock life but dreams of something more. It includes classic songs from I Don’t Need Anything But You to Tomorrow.

▪  Rent, 7 p.m. Feb. 27.

The Broadway phenomenon is celebrating its 20th anniversary.

A re-imagining of the opera La Bohème, the show centers on a group of young artists living, loving and dreaming “at the end of the millennium” in New York City.

“With its inspiring message of joy and hope in the face of fear, this timeless celebration of friendship and creativity reminds us to measure our lives with the only thing that truly matters — love,” the news release said.
